Traumatic dental injuries occur frequently in children and in young adults. Around 25% of school children experience dental trauma. Proper assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up are extremely important to assure a favorable outcome.

Dentists should all be prepared and feel comfortable treating traumatic injury. This course will offer a review on how to successfully assess, treat and manage traumatic injuries in the primary dentition and young permanent dentition. Prevention of traumatic injuries will also be discussed.

This course follows the guidelines set forth by the International Association of Dental Traumatology.

Learning Objectives:

  • Trauma Assessment
  • Diagnose and classify traumatic dental injuries
  • Management of fracture injuries in the primary dentition and in the young permanent dentition
  • Management of luxation injuries in the primary dentition and in the young permanent dentition
  • Preventing injuries and preparation for dental emergencies

About Geraldine Gerges Gaid, DDS, MS:

Geraldine Gerges Gaid, DDS, MS received her dental doctorate degree from Université de Montreal and completed a general practice residency at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. After working for a couple of years in private practice and at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, she decided to specialize in pediatric dentistry. She completed her pediatric training at the University of Michigan where she also obtained her master’s degree. She is currently an assistant Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She balances her academic career in pediatric dentistry by teaching doctoral and post-doctoral students and is maintaining a clinical practice in Santa Clara County.
